MITA Press Release
Established in February 2005 by Grace Randolph, MITA was proud to be part of the 2005 NY Underground Comedy Festival alongside established improv troupes Upright Citizens Brigade and National Comedy Theatre.
MITA's goal was to perform witty and truly original comedy, proving that you don't have to be crude or shocking to get a laugh.
MITA began with short-form comedy improv, working to bring more respect and prestige to the often overlooked craft.  Of course the successful television show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” had gained national exposure for short-form comedy improv, but short-form was still having (and still does have) a hard time competing with stand-up comedy and long-form improv as live entertainment in NYC.
For a year and a half MITA performed weekly at Joe Franklin’s Comedy Club, located in the back of Charley O’s Bar & Grill in Times Square - reaching out to tourists and New Yorkers alike.
On Monday, February 27th 2006, MITA was proud to perform its One Year Anniversary Show at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, celebrating 52 weeks of comedy!
After the One Year Anniversary Show, MITA expanded to perform sketch comedy as well.  MITA’s sketch debut on March 29th at Gotham Comedy Club was very well received.  The show was hosted by Jessica Kirson (NBC's Last Comic Standing, Comedy Central) and Darrell Hammond (Saturday Night Live) was a special guest!
In fact the show went so well MITA was invited back twice - June 21st and August 16th, 2006 - as part of Gotham's regular stand-up show, the only sketch group to receive such an honor!  Gotham is one of the top comedy clubs in the country, featured on both USA Today's and AOL Cityguide's Top 10 USA comedy clubs lists.
In July 2006, MITA decided to end its Times Square show.  While MITA enjoyed all of its shows at Joe Franklin’s Comedy Club, it was time to start a show at a venue which was a more serious comedy establishment.
And after a test show on Monday September 18th 2006, MITA was proud to be granted a monthly sketch & improv show at The Comedy Cellar, a comedy club not only listed on ZAGAT’s Top 50 Nightspots but the NY Post said “The Comedy Cellar has it all - the edgiest acts, the widest variety and an atmosphere second to none.”
From September 2006 through June 2007, MITA was the only sketch & improv group to perform at this legendary stand-up comedy club!
